This past Saturday we found ourselves in the Emergency Room for the second time in the last two weeks. Aiman was the reason for this visit as well.
In the afternoon he was himself, happy and playful with occasional bursts of hilarious attitude. We were also expecting company to come over and see him. Really, nowadays, anyone who comes over does so for Aiman, not for any of us boring adults.
Nothing in our routine was out of the ordinary, until he was unusually difficult to put down for this nap, which, okay, I suppose isn’t totally outside the realm of “normal” for a 10 month old. Then he woke up and was completely inconsolable. I mean there was shrilling and crying and heavy sobbing like I’ve never seen before.
And of course, when our company wasn’t here, he was perfectly fine. Yet when she’s here to see him, he’s having a complete and utterly heartbreaking meltdown.
Heh, I swear he’s not normally like this. Look! Here are home videos to prove it!
I called this nurse hot line and when the nurse heard Aiman shrilling in the background asked how long he’s been crying like that and I responded “For about an hour now”.
“You need to get him to the hospital right now, just get your things and go!”
“Whaaaaa?! Really? OMG WHAT’S GOING ON?!”
“Just go to the E.R. and have him checked out!”
“Okay…!”
Click, I hung up the phone and frantically told my mom to head to the hospital. My mom does not play any games when it comes to her only grandson/grandchild. She drove like I was in labor and pushing him out right at that moment or like I just severed my arm. She was a madwoman out to save her grandbaby!
All the while, my poor son still heavily crying and we still have no clue what’s going on.
At the hospital, we finally have the doctor examine him and turns out Aiman has inflammation in his middle ears, also known as an ear infection. Not the dreaded ear infection! He developed it from his flu two weeks ago, the same one that landed us in the E.R. with him because of his fever.
They administered a numbing drop to kill the pain, because apparently ear infections are horribly painful, which explains the wailing.
He’s doing better because of the antibitics and it should all come to an end within ten days.
I have tons more sympathy for my friend who’s son is riddled with ear infections. It’s really times like this when I wish I can extract all of the pain from his boo boo’s and just let him be happy and pain free all the time.
In fact it should be some sort of natural law of the universe that babies and children do not suffer in any way.
Goodness..

P.S. that nurse that scared me to death should be punished for making me think something horrific was happening to Aiman…
but on the other hand, he did save him further ear pain…so he shall be spared
I was just at the hospital this past weekend too..but it was because my niece burned herself a little, but it still needed medical attention
kids are so dangerous to themselves
glad to hear Aiman is doing better
hope the infection goes away soon!
thanks Laura
And yikes! she burned herself?

Is he better?
Dang, that must have been so scary with that nurse sounding like it was a life or death kind of thing!

i dont like it when babies are in pain either
Awh, poor baby boy!
