Ode To My Foe

(Cue the dramatic music)

Like an orchestra, the symptoms collaborated in full harmony to ensure my demise.

I woke up mute from the immense itching and throbbing in my throat.

Puzzled, I did not realize that it was only the first of things my list would comprise.

Speaking was delicately monitored as it would bring about coughing too vibrant.

Then my back.

Oh, my entire back was the most unpleasant.

It was not muscular pain that demands a massage- that I can endure.

Rather it was the tenderness of a large swelling bruise, a bruise covering my back and grandure

Soon after, dizzy spells made walking acrobatics.

Right foot

Left foot

Right foot

Left foot

I concentrated to not go kaput.

In perfect punctuality, chest congestion brought about suffocation.

It was then that I was forced, kicking and screaming, to accept the source of my frustration.

I can not ignore the simple truth that shadows these acts, these symptoms.

This is it.

I’m approaching the very thing I struggled at all costs to avoid.

I am getting -ACHOO!- excuse me, I am,

SICK.

(Let the dramatic music fade away as slowly as my health)

    I’m so upset I’m sick.

I sanitized and washed and kept my distance, thinking “HA, I will beat you this year cold and flu!”

and then the cold/flu said “HA, that’s what you think, wench!”

    So here I am.

    Defeated.
